Becoming a Christian

How to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord & Savior:
Admit the fact that you are a sinner.
“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
Believe that Christ died on the cross for you.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
Commit your life to Christ through faith.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
Determine to live your life in obedience to Christ
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!”
2 Corinthians 5:17
Express to God your decision through prayer
Here is an example of such a prayer. However, we encourage you to talk to the Lord in your own words!
“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I ask that You forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, and make me the kind of person You want me to be. I am now trusting You as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Follow your decision with Believer’s Baptism*
“Therefore, we were buried with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.”
Romans 6:4

*Baptism occurs following an individuals’ commitment to Christ. Baptism is a person’s way of being obedient to God. It is a public (outward) demonstration of a personal (inward) commitment that has already been made to Christ.

GO and make disciples

At North Oxford Baptist Church, we seek to obey Christ’s command to make disciples by taking the gospel across the street and around the world. We do this through local service and ministry partnerships, North American church planting, and international missions partnerships.

God is at work all over the world, and we desire to join Him in what He is doing.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
-Acts 1:8
